Fraction Cups

Today for maths i learnt fractions.

We cut a cup into quarters and another cup into eights.

First we got a cup and cut it into quarter but we had to draw a line to know where we have to cut it.

Then we got another cup to cut the cup into eight pieces.

I  drew a straight line from the top to the bottom of the cup I then cut the cups.

First I cut one of the cups into quarters then I cut the second cup into eight pieces.

Learning about fractions are fun when we do activity's about it.

Division story problems

I had to come up with division stories.

First we had to write how much objects they had all together.

Next we had to write how we divided them.

After we had to see how much each person got.

Lastly we had to write the algorithm for the equation. For example 3 ÷ 3 = 1.

Brain storming

This week we learned about brainstorming.

First we have to watch a video about brainstorming, when the video is done we need to get into partners.
Once we have our partners we have topics, When we get told the topics we have to write reasons on why we agree with the topic or why we disagree.

Next when we were done with the topics we have to create a google doc with school, home and community  then you have to write 3 topics having to do with home, school or community. When you have all of the topic you need to chose 2 topics and write reasons on why you agree with it.

Division story problems

I had to come up with some division story.

First we had to write how much objects they had all together.

Next we had to write how we divided them.

After we had to see how much each person got.

Lastly we had to write the algorithm like 2÷2.

Division

Division is sharing objects among a number of groups evenly.

For example 6 counters were shared among 3 people so everyone got 2 counters each, 6 ÷ 3 = 2

The slide below shows 3 division equations.

Risk assessment

The risk assessment is a group task to show the risk, hazards and consequences when doing an activity.

First you need to do the task with your group explaining what hazard and risk is. A hazard is something that could cause harm to people, properties and the environment. A risk is something that can harm people, properties and the environment

Next we had to create a safety plan. We listed the activity, how much students we had, class year level and the location.

After that we had to write down what could go wrong, what caused it to go wrong and how we could stop it from happening.

Rewriting narratives

A narrative can help with getting new ideas.

A narrative is when you get ideas from a story and rewrite it in your own words. When rewriting a character description the story line still needs to be like the original story line.

I changed the fox to the wolf because the animals are kind of similar to each other. The underground was changed to a den and the Gruffalo's favorite food was changed to wolf frosting.

Making connections

Making connections help readers understand the story.

The three types of connections are text to self, text to text and text to world.

Text to self connections are when something in the text reminds the reader of an experience.

Text to text connections happen when something in the text reminds the reader of a previous text read.

Text to world connections are larger connections that a reader brings to a reading situation.

Multiplication

Multiplication is a fast way of adding on the same number. For example 4 x 9 is 9+9+9+9=36.

The slides below show the 9 and 7 time tables.
L.I-To learn the time tables.

Setting description

A setting description is describing a place in the story.

When you write a setting description you must have what it smells like, feels like, looks like and sounds like.

A setting description uses adjectives to help describe the place. An adjective is a describing word.

The setting description helps the readers understand and imagine what the setting is.

Visualisation

L.I-To visualize parts of the story

Visualizing is when someone describes a picture and you draw it without looking at the picture.

First I have to listen to audios of the book called The Gruffalo and visualize the story part.

Then when i'm done with visualizing The Gruffalo there was a activity we had to do.

I had to draw a nogard without looking at what it is. A nogard is dragon spelled backwards when our activity was done we had to lift our drawings up and show other people.

Hazard and risks

LI. To demonstrate prior knowledge.

This week I have been learning about hazards and risks.

Hazards are things that could cause harm. For example chairs and a road. Risks are  harm from hazards . For example the bike is the hazard and falling over is a risk.

As a group we had to find hazard for school, home, sport, and community. We had to pick a hazard that another group didn’t have.

After finding the hazards we had to make posters about the risks and hazards. We had to find risks for each hazard

Character Description

A character description gives people information about appearance, experience and personality.

Appearance gives information about what the face, hair, body and clothes look like.

Experience gives information about where they live, who their family and friends are, their special interests, hobbies or talents, and their secrets or special achievements.

Personality gives information about what kind of person they are, how they behave, what do they say and what makes them interesting or different.

A character description can explain how they look, and more.

Hole in the kings socks

This week we learned to summarise.

We also needed to link our visualising and inferencing to help with our learning.

I did a story web to summarise what the book was about.

I used my visualising to help me with my story web

Then I used the inferencing to tell more information about the character.

For example the king was cold so he went to put on his sock but there were holes in them, he demanded other fix them which shows he is lazy.

Multiplication word problems

For math I did multiplication word problems.

First I had to figure out how much items were in a group.

Then I had to try find out how much groups there were.

After I find out the group size and groups I have to write the number sentence, For example 2 x 2= 4.

Lastly I have to write the answer in a word sentence.

Multiplication and word problems

Multiplication is a faster way of adding the same number again and again. I learned to identify timetables.

Melanie worked 3 hours for 5 days. How many hours did she work in total?

First you have to look for the group size which is 3 .

Melanie worked 3 hours for 5 days. How many hours did she work in total?

Then you look for the number of groups which is 5.

The picture below shows the equation which is 5 x 3= 15.

Rahi and the Patupaiarehe

This week we were learning to summerise We also needed to link visualisation and inferenceing  to help us.

We filled in a story web to summarize each part of the story to separate the parts of the story.

I used my visualisation from week 1 to help separate the parts of the story.

I used my character inference trait to use adjectives and evidence to help summaries different parts using good adjectives unlocks meaningful information, and i can summerise quicker connecting all 3
strategies helped me to understand the story, character and keywords.

Survival kit

This week i have been learning about Event and effect.

Event is like an information and research report because we have to research about the event and write it as an information report.

Effect describes the event that happened and the emotion that the soldiers felt when having to leave their families.

Once we're done with event and effect we have to create a google slide.

In the google slide we have to make a survival kit.

In the survival kit we have to think about objects to put in the survival kit.

Then once we are done with thinking the object we have chosen we have to type it into the survival kit then find and put images of the object we have written down

Number bonds to 10 quiz

This is what I learned from number bonds to 10.

The number bonds to 10 is this 0+10, 1+9, 2+8, 3+7, 4+6, 5+5, 6+4, 7+3, 8+2 and 1+9. That is the number bonds to 10.

I have done a subtraction quiz using the 10 bonds.

Kupe and cook

Kupe and cook are 2 important explorers in New Zealand history.

Kupe found Aotearoa around the 1100  by following a mythical octopus but he was also trying to find a source of Sea life for his people to eat. kupe was travelling on a Po ti which is a type of boat.

Kupe is important because he was the first documented person in New Zealand. Kupe arrived in New Zealand in the 1100. He travelled by traditional methods on a traditional sail boat. Myth has it he followed a giant octopus. He did this voyage to find new land for his people to live. His wife named New Zealand Aotearoa after seeing mountains under the clouds.

James cook came to New Zealand on 6th of October 1769.
James cook was trying to find the southern island but then he saw Aotearoa on accident and James cook was trying to find Australis. he discovered New Zealand on a Endeavour which is a boat this boat had weapons on it specifically canons .Captain James Cook was famous for discovering most of the pacific.

James cook is important because he mapped New Zealand and opened it up to the world to access.James cook had a navigator but this navigator could speak and that's because it a human he is polynesian also the royal family was the one who actually told James cook to find the southern island.
after James cook went to New Zealand everything went down hill for the maoris because if captain James cook didn't get what he wanted he would kill the people especially for their land thats why most of the land is owned by white people and not Maori peoples land.
